More About The Group
HELLO
Who is the My Job Depends on Ag Group?
My Job Depends on Ag is a Facebook group and community for those interested in learning, sharing, and supporting Ag.
It started between two friends, Erik Wilson & Steve Malanca. In an effort to show support for Ag in California, Steve Malanca came up with a decal, the “My Job Depends on Ag Decal”, and sold them to his friends and family, so they could show pride and passion in the California Ag industry. An industry that was, and is still, being attacked with misinformation. Steve sold $5,000 dollars worth of decals in one week alone. And as he looked at the money he earned, he thought to himself, “This is not my money. I need to give this back to a cause to help the community.” And so he talked his thoughts over with his friend Erik Wilson, and they decided it would be best to donate the proceeds of the decals to benefit Ag scholarship funds, programs, and classes; this way they can help educate the youth. And Erik had the idea to start a Facebook group page in order to help further spread the message Steve had started with his decal.
Within the first week, more than 10,000 other people joined that group, and within the first five years it grew to include more than 85,000 member, and is still growing to this day. They have huge support and friendship in the Ag community, and there is even an educational television program based around the group movement. The group has brought together communities of people in Agriculture that before it had felt they had no voice or strength to be heard. The group has been able to bolster support and conversation about issues facing the Ag community. With the massive platform they have built, a TV show, publication, and outreach to children, the My Job Depends on Ag Group has been able to bridge a divide.
The mission…
Our vision, through this grassroots effort, is to show how many people’s lives are related, connected and, most importantly, dependent on agriculture. Our goal is to illustrate just how massive the fraternity of Ag really is, as well as educate and inform the public with articles, stories, images and more, directly from the farmers, ranchers and other agricultural support businesses, whose daily lives – and livelihoods – are affected every day by agriculture in this country.
